Chainmail armor is a type of armor that was made by Notch as a test. Pieces of chainmail armor can be crafted like all other types of armor, but with Fire instead. Fire can only be obtained using the /give command, or by using an Inventory editor. Chainmail armor does not dampen damage like other armor types, but instead completely protects the player from all damage until the armor breaks. Chainmail armor has the same durability as Gold armor.

Chainmail is unique in that it is the only default armor with large amounts of transparency within the armor. Every other pixel is transparent, except for the front of the head, which has a clear space for the face, and other areas which have no covering. It is the only armor that is not a differently colored version of another.

Notch briefly mentioned that he would add legal chainmail armor, most likely in a future Seecret Friday update.
