Hoppers are a block that can pick up items thrown into the top or can remove and transfer items from adjacent containers and deposit them into another container. They can be deactivated by applying a Redstone signal.
Note that Hoppers cannot bring items up.
In order to funnel items into a Chest, while holding the hopper, shift-right click on the chest to place the hopper. It can be on any of the 4 sides or the top within one block to work.
Hoppers are made from five Iron Ingots and a Chest.
Hopper Clocks can be made by placing 2 hoppers running into each other with an item inside of one of them. Hopper clocks may be the simplest clock in all of minecraft. To hook up an input, place redstone comparators facing away from the hoppers, and then place a repeater in front of the comparators. Finally, place your utility block (Piston, Sticky Piston, Redstone Lamp, etc.).
