Flint is an item in Minecraft only used for crafting Flint and Steel or Arrows. It can be obtained when mining Gravel; however, its 1/8 (12.5%) chance of appearing can be heightened by using a Fortune enchantment on anything. Fortune III has a 100% drop rate of Flint. Fortune I and II have a 14% and 15% chance respectively.
Fortune effects on Gravel/Flint ratio
The Fortune enchantment on a tool influences the amount of Flint given in a group of gravel blocks. Tests have been done, yielding these results:
- Flint looks much like Coal, so don't confuse the two.
- You can get flint by trading with villagers.
- Breaking gravel by dropping it onto a torch will never yield any flint
- Likewise, silk touch tools will never drop flint.
